Sam’s Biography

Originally from Nottinghamshire, Sam moved to London in 2012 to study at the Royal Academy of Music after attending the Junior Jazz course for two years. As well as studying with some of the UK's finest musicians and educators including Stan Sulzmann and Iain Ballamy, he has also been a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra for five years, touring the UK and Europe extensively. With NYJO, Sam has perfomed in venues such as The Sage, Ronnie Scott’s and the Albert Hall and performed and recorded alongside musicians such as Jason Yarde, Julian Siegel and Nikki Iles. Sam appears on NYJO’s most recent CD ‘NYJO Fifty’ (Whirlwind Recordings - 2016).

Recent concert highlights for Sam include the Gareth Lockrane Big Band for the EFG London Jazz Festival and the Winston Rollins Big Band. Sam is also a member of the Patchwork Jazz Orchestra, recipients of the Peter Whittingham Jazz Award (Debut album out in 2019). As well as writing and performing his own original music in various settings including his own Quartet, Sam also plays with the Matt Hurley band.

Sam has toured extensively around the world with and recorded for Gentleman's Dub Club (‘Dubtopia’ - 2017) and also recorded in horn sections for XOA and Slowly Rolling Camera (‘Juniper’ - 2018 Edition Records).

An exciting and original debut project showcasing the lyrical and characterful compositions of Sam Glaser, featuring some of the most in-demand musicians in London. With influences ranging from Kurt Rosenwinkel, Chris Cheek, Kneebody and Chris Potter, the band has a strong and individual sound featuring virtuosic soloing, emotive harmony and expansive grooves.
